Our team at Positive Begegnungen 2026: dialogue, visibility and support for the Ukrainian community

From 13 to 16 August 2026, the ‘Positive Begegnungen’ (PoBe) event took place in Magdeburg – one of the largest gatherings in Germany for people living with HIV, community representatives and civil society organisations.

Our team at Positive Begegnungen 2026: dialogue, visibility and support for the Ukrainian community

It was a great honour for our team to take part in this event and to present tools that help Ukrainians in Germany access reliable health information and seek help in good time – in particular our platform, datacheck.com.de. The platform offers a free and confidential online HIV screening tool that helps users better assess their personal situation and decide whether an HIV test is advisable. The participation of our colleague Valeriia Rachynska, Director of Human Rights, Gender and Communities at the NGO ‘100% Life’ and an expert in public health and human rights, was also particularly valuable.

During the event, she took part in discussions on access to health and support services for people living with HIV in Germany, particularly for those with a migration background. The discussions also covered strategies for reducing stigma, as well as the role of migrant organisations and key communities in ensuring equal access to medical care. A key highlight following the conference was taking part in the Pride march. It served as a powerful reminder of how closely the protection of human rights, the reduction of HIV-related stigma and the promotion of diversity are intertwined. It was precisely these values that shaped the ‘Positive Begegnungen’ event in Magdeburg throughout all four days of the conference.

💙🏳️‍🌈 We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Deutsche Aidshilfe and the organisers of Positive Begegnungen 2026 for the invitation and the opportunity to be part of this important exchange.

✨ Thank you to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting in Magdeburg from 13 to 16 August. Your stories, experiences, support and commitment demonstrate once again that strong communities change lives for the better.
